A modern Sri Lankan wedding at West Horsley Place

Nanelle and Kasun’s wedding was a beautiful blend of tradition, intimacy, and modern elegance. With 62 guests attending it was a celebration that felt intimate, cultural and designed specifically for them. Hosted in the English countryside, their wedding brought together friends and family from around the world, with many guests flying in from Sri Lanka to be part of the day.

Blending modern bridal outfits with Sri Lankan tradition

Nanelle’s bridal style was a beautiful reflection of her personality and heritage, with not just one look but three outfits throughout the day. She began the day in a traditional Sri Lankan ivory saree, paired with heirloom inspired jewellery and delicate floral headpiece. Later, she changed into a modern strapless gown with a long lace-edged veil for a modern and black-tie wedding breakfast aesthetic. For the evening Nanelle changed into a modern two piece outfit with a beaded skirt and corset-style top, perfect for dancing the night away. Each look told a story and had a purpose, striking the perfect balance between tradition and modern designs.

Intimate and timeless wedding

With just over 60 guests, the couple chose to keep the wedding intimate, the smaller guest list allowed for a sense of calm and intimacy with no rushing between group photos or feeling pulled in a hundred directions. Instead, there was time for the couple to soak everything in, from emotional hugs at the ceremony to relaxed mingling during the drinks reception. This outdoor wedding was the perfect balance of celebration and connection.

With two long tables in the drawing room of West Horsley Place for the wedding breakfast, this meal felt like a reunion of all their favourite people, a space to enjoy the company of friends and family in a beautifully decorated setting.

“Amanda is unbelievable!!! Hands down the best investment. She was an angel throughout and on the day, I just don’t know she does it, but she makes it all happen. Honestly, we felt so restful assured that she’s there to execute everything to perfection. She’s magic and we had the most incredible day thanks to her. It was incredibly beautiful and we will never forget all that she did it make it happen.”

Handmade wedding decorations

One of the standout elements of this wedding was how much of it was handmade and personal. Nanelle created all of the wedding stationery herself, from the order of service to the menus and table signage. Every design was carefully considered and entirely unique adding a layer of meaning to the celebration and making each space feel so unique and personal to the couple.

She even created personalised wooden hangers for each of the bridal party dresses so her bridal party felt special. These are the kind of thoughtful details that might seem small at first but add such a lovely moment to the getting ready experience, and speaks volumes about the care that went into the day.

A calm and elegant celebration

The couple opted for a traditional Hindu ceremony but added their own romantic styling to the outside space through floral arrangements and a pastel colour scheme. The setup felt timeless and chic, with stunning florals that framed the space and added gentle colour to the backdrop.

With a soft, romantic palette and natural, seasonal florals, the overall styling was relaxed but refined. It was important to the couple that the day didn’t feel too overdone, they wanted it to be warm, welcoming with an English garden vibe. Every element from the flowers to the flow of the day felt considered yet relaxed.

Guests enjoyed drinks, music, and speeches in the garden together before joining the couple inside the house for the wedding breakfast. The evening unfolded with an outfit change from the bride and live music for a fun party.

A destination celebration that felt like home

Although the wedding took place in the UK, it almost carried the spirit of a destination wedding. With family travelling from Sri Lanka where the couple is from, the celebration became a reunion as much as a wedding and a chance for loved ones to gather, reconnect, and share in something truly special.

There’s something about bringing together people from different parts of your life and more so different parts of the world, that makes a wedding feel even more meaningful. And that was absolutely true here. The whole event felt grounded in love, culture, and community, something that was a joy to be part of.
