An Interview With Leading Wedding Photographer, Rebecca Kerr Photography

As a wedding planner in the UK, one of the most important relationships we cultivate is with our preferred photographers. The right photographer doesn’t just take beautiful pictures - they intuitively understand the rhythm of a wedding day, connect with couples on a personal level, and translate emotion into timeless imagery.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with, in my opinion, some of the most talented creatives in the wedding industry. Today I’m delighted to share the backstory, approach and what makes Rebecca Kerr’s photography resonate with our Amanda Whiston Events couples.

Her work is thoughtful, emotive, and effortlessly elegant — the kind of imagery that tells a story without saying a word.

Amanda: Rebecca, can you describe your photography style and approach?

Rebecca: It’s relaxed, intuitive and documentary-led but with an editorial eye. I observe far more than I direct, trying to tune into what matters most to each couple. It’s less about perfect poses and more about honest connection, the light, and how it all felt. I want my couples to feel like they can be — not perform — in front of the camera.

Amanda: You’re known for a truly bespoke service. How do you tailor your approach for each couple?

Rebecca: It’s really important to me to invest time in getting to know my couples — their priorities, their families, their hopes for the day. Whether it’s a wild party or a quiet gathering, I adapt how I move, interact, and shoot.

Amanda: What does building a relationship with your clients look like during the planning journey?

Rebecca: I want my couples to feel supported and seen. I check in regularly, offer help beyond photography — like supplier recommendations or timeline advice — and celebrate their milestones. Even little things like replying to their stories or cheering on their hen party helps us connect.

Amanda: How do you take an abstract vision and turn it into tangible, emotional imagery?

Rebecca:
I ask questions that dig beneath the surface. Which details are sentimental? What relationships matter most? How do they want to feel on the day? I make notes and use those insights to guide where I stand, what I notice, and how I shoot.

Amanda: Is there a wedding that still stands out to you as unforgettable?

Rebecca: A rain-soaked wedding in Rome with Lucy Henzell. Everything changed an hour before the ceremony, but it became one of the most joyful dance floors I’ve ever seen. It reminded me to focus on what is rather than what was planned.

Amanda: What inspires your artistry?

Rebecca: Everyday life — the way light hits a stairwell, a shadow on the wall. I find beauty in the ordinary. Travel, architecture, and galleries inspire me, too — especially renaissance art and film photography.

Amanda: Your work is full of subtle, elegant moments. How do you weave that sophistication into your galleries?

Rebecca: I rely on refined composition, natural light, and intuitive timing. Sophistication isn’t loud — it’s in the quiet details, the textures, the stillness. I focus on presence over performance.

Amanda: Can you share five of your favourite, less conventional wedding moments to capture?

Rebecca:

  1. The deep breath before walking down the aisle.

  2. A couple’s glance during speeches.

  3. Quiet interactions with older relatives.

  4. The joyful exhale post-ceremony.

  5. Behind-the-scenes beauty — like a jacket being hung or a flower girl twirling alone.

Amanda: How do these moments add editorial flair?

Rebecca: They add rhythm, intimacy, and contrast. They make the gallery feel more cinematic and intentional — capturing not just the celebration but the atmosphere.

Amanda: From your perspective, how does working with a wedding planner enhance your role as a photographer?

Rebecca: Planners create space for moments to unfold naturally. I collaborate on flow but always leave room for spontaneity. A second photographer can also be a huge asset for capturing layers of a day without interrupting its authenticity.

Amanda: What’s your dream setup or couple to work with?

Rebecca: A couple who values storytelling over perfection, who trust the process, and who choose a setting rich in texture — think historic spaces, candlelit tables, and heartfelt celebration.

Amanda: Is there a particular image or moment that still moves you?

Rebecca: One is of Julie and Justin at the Eiffel Tower. Julie is legally blind, and the way Justin supported her while honouring her independence was profoundly moving. Another is Lizzie and Marcus leaving the church — their joy is palpable, even without seeing their full faces.

Amanda: How do elements like light, texture, and movement influence your work?

Rebecca: Light is everything. Whether it's soft window light or dramatic candlelight, it sets the tone. Texture — lace, velvet, stone — adds richness. Movement brings emotion. Some moments are perfectly still; others are intentionally blurred to evoke feeling.

Amanda: Lastly, what does success look like at the end of a wedding day?

Rebecca: It’s when my couples hug me goodbye, already grateful before seeing a single image. And when they tell me their gallery helped them see moments they missed or change their profile photo to one of mine — that’s always a quiet win!
